The
Blue Mountains
The
Blue Mountains are about an hour west of Sydney, and can be visited
on an organized day tour, or by train or car for one or more days.
The mountains are part of Australia's Great Dividing Range, which
runs from southern Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland to
about Melbourne, in Victoria. It doesn't divide the country in half,
as it's rarely more than 100 miles inland, but does divide the coast,a
nd most of Australia's population, from the inland, or "the Bush."
it also pulls up most of the rain coming in from the Pacific ocean,
so regardless how wet it is on the coastal side - over 15 feet per
year in parts of North Queensland - it's much drier to the West.
